So recently after getting my car painted, water got through a coil or two and made my car misfire a lot. a few days later the car was perfectly fine though, at least i thought so, then it started misfiring when i'd give it a lot of gas and the car would jerk and not move much. i cleaned under the hood the other day, same misfiring as the first time, so i changed all the plugs, boots, and the #6 coil, it was most recent to misfire and misfired more often. now when i drive it does the same thing where when i'll give it lots of gas, it'll feel like its misfiring, sound like shit, and not move much. cylinder 5 also was misfiring before 6 but the shop i took it to said 6 was more often and more recently, but my tuner had both. i tried switching the new coil on 6 and old one on 5, and it made the car misfire even worse. what is going on, is it the 5th coil or could it be something else? when i drive slow it seems fine but when i give it gas it jerks and sounds like its misfiring. im just not sure if the 5th coil dried out i guess like the first time and maybe its ok, or if i should change it, or i have a completely different problem. sorry for the huge story lol.

you didnt say what year car it was, im assuming that all the coils are the same, what i would do is take the 5 and 6 coils and swap them with the 2 and 3 coils and see if the problem follows the coils. also i would check to make sure all your connections are nice and dry that could cause some problems. and you said you changed the boots right? because i worked on an expedittion that had an oil leak into the number 3 cyl and ruined that boot and it had very similar symptoms. sorry for the long story ..... haha [patriot]

You need to pull all the plugs and ensure the plug wells (holes where the plugs go) are completely clean and free of debris. Also, you didn't state if you are using dielectric grease or not. You should be. Lastly, I would change both the 5 and 6 coils (or at least swap them to the other side, as suggested) due to the computer being able to pickup misfires from adjacent cylinders.

Clean your MAF and re-load your tune while you're at it.
