Well, my 97 GT that I had replaced the engine with a 98 Cobra Motor just threw a rod or spun a bearing. i was leaving work this morning to come home and the car died on the way out of the lot, then i started it again and it barly started, i was giving it gas to raise the rpm and all i heard ws some serious metal to metal knock inside the block and the engine was shaking left to right to a point i thought the mounts were gonna break...Now what? any ideas? I need to get this car running again as this one is my primary vehicle..

ouch, that sucks! junkyard would have a mark8 longblock for pretty cheap, would just need to swap your intake manifold stuff and get a 6 bolt flywheel to use it

So you know for the future, if it is a spun bearing/thrown rod it is very common with the 96-98 32 valves if they get low on oil. Ford instructs to run 6 quarts of oil, but if it gets below that (not sure how much below but must not be much with the issue being common) its toast. Most people on SVT forums with these engines run up to 7 quarts at all times with no issues on the stock pan, I run 6.75.

I've always run 7 in mine since I got it swapped in the car, no issues

1. Take the motor out of the 97
2. Take the motor out of the 04
3. Drop motor from 04 cobra into the 97
4. Open beer

Lol. The terminator is getting a new clutch. Man I hate all this work for nothing. I had I think five qts of oil so that may have caused it. Well how much does it cost to fix a spun bearing now days?

Definitely won't be cheap. I mean if ur gonna go through the trouble of pulling the motor and opening it up to replace one bearing u might as well rebuild it. Labor, gaskets etc... probably looking @ 2 grand. I remember seeing a mach 1 engine/trans/ecu on CL but that's like 3k and then all the swapping & stuff. Keep us posted on what the cost ends up being though.
