i have a 1996 mustang gt thats a 4.6l 5speed and am wondering if the 5.4l engine will drop rite in or need modifications.am thinking of a ford lightning motor?

yes it will drop in.. but there are mods you need to do to make it run..starters you need a 4v comp.. i'm in the process of droping 5.4 navi. motor in a 97 cobra...

Also, don't plan on a lightning blower as you would need a rediculous like 9" hood to clear that sucker. Probably better to just drop a 4.6L 4V motor in. Or build a PI motor with a blower and you can make 600+ to the tire.

The engine could care less about the computer, even when doing a 2v to 4v swap.

Mods will be for exhaust, a few front accessory drive items (depending on year), possibly flywheel/flexplate (6 or 8 bolt), and wiring modifications. A 5.4 4v will need the 00 Cobra R brake offset plate (or a version of). That's it.
