A buddy of mine has a 95 V6 (3,8L, 5-speed) Mustang at his tow yard I was going to pick up for a commuter car. It "idles" at 2000-2500 rpm and will not drop at all, I disconnected the IAC and no change. There is a P0171 code and the check engine light is on. I'm suspecting the MAF is bad however would a bad MAF cause a high idle like that?

P0171 is a bad O2 sensor, passenger side.
MAF shouldn't cause a high idle; if anything, it would cause a poor idle condition.
The IAC valve can still be inop even with it unplugged. If it is stuck open, there's the problem.
