Why would it make a difference if it was carb or EFI?
Anyway, every major company offers a gear drive for most applications. Give Summit Racing a call and see what they recommend.

I know some gear drives say not for roller cam but I think it has more to do with knock sensors thinking the noise produced is detonation and pulling timing. You should be fine as long as its a decent brand, I'd stay away from the cheap eBay gear drive sets just because if they wear you can get metal shavings all through your motor.

I had bad luck w a gear drive in the past. The engine ran fine drove it for about a yr made nice pwr very reliable.
One day the thing jus died on the hwy. I pulled over tryed to crank it and crank it nothing took of the air filter to see if the carb was giving gas it was took the dizzy cap off and the rotor wasnt turning hmmmm.
Towed it to the house pulled the dizzy it was fine... Looked down the hole n WOW tons of geardive teeth all over the place...
Took the valve covers off evry spring was compresed every valve bent... I will never run a geardrive again Pete Jackson was the brand also... Toasted my 205 AFRs also cracked em at the valve guide...

Why do you want to go with a gear drive? I have not really heard anything good about them. If you want to replace your timing set get a good double roller timing set like a Cloyes.
