I tried to hook up an aftermarket CD deck in my fox today & cant figure out why its not working?? I bought the harnesses & hooked up all the wires correctly & couldnt get any sound to come out? The deck turns on & the cd plays, basically everything seems to work, but couldnt hear any sound at all??? How do i test the deck to make sure it actually works???? I got the deck in a trade about a year ago & never really tested it, my bad I guess? What am I doing wrong?

Im not trying to pay an installer $60 for an install that i can do myself. These local audio shops charge alot for everything...They actually wanted $25 just to remove the stock deck? I said screw that & went to napa & got the tools for $5....

you need to bypass the factory amp, look for another set of radio plugs further inside the dash and plug into those instead of the ones that were in the stock deck.

Oh...So even foxes have factory amps similar to the Mach 460's in the SN95's? will the harnesses I bought plug directly into those the same way??

only those with the "premium" sound... you can do it 2 ways... like blind said, and bypass the stock amp and let the deck power the speakers or you can buy a oem amp integrator that has output gain control to match up the factory amp and speakers... do it the cheap way and just bypass the factory amp...the aftermarket deck has enough power...

So thats a plug & play procedure to bypass the amps right? I was surprised how decent the speakers sounded for stock, so maybe it does have premium sound? Thanks guys....

if you have door speakers it has 'premium sound'

non premium has little stickers over the door speaker holes, and no wiring to there, just the dash and rear speakers.

the amp is directly underneath the deck in the center console, bolted to the top of the tranny hump.

if you bypass it you can pull it out, it's very simple.

it plugs inline with the exact same plugs as the stock deck, and it's not worth the extra adapter kit because it's weaksauce, aftermarket decks put out much more power.

Hey, those factory amps were the shit back in the day! [Big Grin] My favorite part was the cool cassette holder in the arm rest..... I never had a cassette deck in any of my Fox bodies or if it did I'd rip it out and throw it out he window on the drive home.

what i did was just took out the stock amp all together and rewired the entire car with a better harness and wires. not the easy way but everything sounds damn good

Finally got it installed. Blind was correct, I had to remove the factory amp & tucked way up behind the dash were the bypass plugs that look exactly like the plugs that came out of the stock deck....Thanks to 93reefblue5.0 for helping with the install & thanks for all the info guys....
