ok to start with, a friend of mine has a 97 cobra. he blew the motor. now to get another 4.6l cobra engine is to expencive.

the question is is there another short block that we can use other than the aluminum 4.6l ?

I had heard that lincon grand marquis has the same shorth block. if it is from what year

mark8 same aluminum block but has cast 6 bolt crank, an rods an pistons still suck.. it will work to get u by. but u will need a new flywheel thats 6bolt

mark8 is fine for a stockish street car, same rotating assembly as a SOHC GT motor, so you'll need a flywheel for a GT (6 bolt like John said)

I used a mark8 motor in my 97GT.

if youre looking to rebuild the same block i think NEXTGEN in hayward has a couple of blocks laying around.
