thinking of swaping a buddy's motor out. and wanted to get a idea of how long it will take.
2001 stock 4.6 5spd. putting another stock 4.6 in. done lots of 5.0 fox swaps. but i haven't done a 4.6 before. [patriot]

it's not too bad, but make sure you pull the hood off and you get the car up really high, I put my DOHC motor in with the tranny (minus shifter) and the exhaust manifolds bolted up, and the SOHC was a whole lot easier to get out.

it takes no longer than a 5.0 for me, and I've only done it once.

I used a set of 6 ton / truck jackstands at near their max so I could swing the tranny almost straight down with my load leveler then lift it back up to drop the motor mounts in place on the k-member.

I drop the tranny first. Don't have to get the car so high, no load leveler, etc. Takes about 8ish hours.
