O.k. so I'm swapping an 86 drivetrain into my 65.
will the stock driveshaft work? I'm going to be using the 86 8.8 rear and it has an alum. shaft I'd like to keep if possible. What about trans cross member, I'm thinking I could use a stock 65 oil pan and pick up?? what about the clutch cable? should I try and get it to work with my stock pedals? convert it to linkage? swap pedals from the 5.0? has anyone done this? anything else I should do? what about fuel? should I swap in the 86 gas tank or go with an external pump? This is a return system correct? I don't mind fabbing shit I just need to do it cheap and use as much as I can from the 86 since I spent 1200 on it just to end up stripping it.

86 motors arent that desireable due to the different head/piston configuration, but they will do in a pinch.

Are you going to retain the serp setup?

Dont forget to change the dist gear so the roller cam dont eat it up.

What timing cover? Early/late?

Late model blocks have dipstick hole in the side of them and early blocks have it in the timing cover.

Couple things to think about.

I'm keeping it all stock for now because of the map injection, stock dist, cover accesories, everything

sure why not? The 86 isn't worth it, window, heater core, cats for smog ect. so why not show some love to that 65 and have an o.k. driver too.

Driveshaft and crossmember will not work. The 8.8 will obviously need spring perches. Swap the 65 pan and timing cover over, plug the block hole for the dipstick. Check out Ron Morris performance or Mustangs Plus in Stockton for the pedal assemblies and T5 crossmember. Pretty easy swap. [Smile]

Edit: run a 255 in-line pump and pull the existing return line out of the donor car for your fuel system.

I'm thinking about using the complete 86 fuel tank. Is the driveshaft too long?? I've done 3 8.8 leaf spring swaps so I'm not worried about that. Why the early timing cover? will it still work with all the injection stuff?? I'm going to be keeping it injected. I do have some early covers if I need them. Thanx
