any help is appreciated guys! i have 3.2 pullie on my pro charger. pro ch. techs said i should be at 14 pounds of boost with cats. i have header with out cats and im makeing 11.5 pounds of boost. people keep telling me the stock bypass valve leaks. my bypass valve releases air back into the inlet tube of super charger. what if i stoped the air from being blown off into the inlet pipe and just blew it off into the atmospher.would this make me loose horse power or hurt my pro charger in any way? - - -

Do You have a blow thru or draw thru maf? You have more cubes than stock? head work? bigger cam? Did the tech ask You these question's? What I am getting at is Your ride is probably flowing more air than a stockblock so it will have less restriction "boost" or backpressure. Go to www.corral.net and do a search because I know one of the mass air meter's "either the blow or draw through" need's the air from the bypass valve to be hooked up to it to keep the correct amount of air measured, should'nt take You but a couple minutes to track it down in the supercharger forum there [patriot] .

my engine is 30 over my heads and cam are stock.my mas air meter is sct 90mm. it is located in the passenger fender well after the inter cooler. im runnen p1sc 3 core intercooler pro charger. it has a bypass plastic butterfly valve that releases a surge of air when i let off the throttle.

im pretty sure i have a blow thru maf. cause air is blown out of the supercharger through the pipeing through the inter cooler and through the mass air then into the intake manifold.

I hink that the fact you are running the headers and you are catless helps create your low boost number. I could be wrong, but here is how I look at indicated boost numbers. Boost measurement is also a measurement of your intake and exhaust restrictions. Lets say that your S/C makes 10 lbs with headers and catless system. If you were to go back to the stock exhaust manifolds and put your cats back on, I am sure that the added exhaust restrictions would give you a higher indicated boost. The resaon being is that the engine is having a harder time sucking in and exhausting the air/gases. likewise if you ported your intake and exhaust, I would expect to see even lower numbers. Does the lower boost number mean lower hp, no way. Just that your car is handling the boost more effeciently.

To me it is not as simple as higher boost means higher hp, but rather how efficiently your car is handling the boost you currently are making.

Not an expert so I could be wrong, but this is how I understand indicated boost numbers and the effects of restrictions.

your right thats what i keep hearing .but my question is. i want to replace my bypass valve with a blow off valve.the bypass valve releases air charge back into the inltet pipe of the blower when you release the throttle. i wanna know if i use a blow off valve instead, and blow that air charge into the atmosphere instead of back into the inlet pipe of the blower.will i loose horse power? is it bad for the blower? will it change the way my pro charger is operateing?

Sorry, I miss understood your question. I am not sure if venting it to the atmoshpere is good or bad. Some say it is a good thing as it vents heated compressed air back into the atmosphere vs back to the inlet side if the S/C. I personaly dont see how it could hurt anything by venting to the atmosphere. I think all that would be gained is the whooooosh noise of the BOV. Now if your surge valve is leaking now, you will notice a hp increase with the BOV.

yea its leaking cuzz when it is suposed to be closed when im on the throttle the butterfly valve does not completely seal all the way.i took the bypass valve out and looked at it and on the inside when its closed, still has a 1/8 gap in it. i blew air thruogh it and it doesnt seal for shit. so im looseing a little boost right?

From what you described, yes you are loosing boost. I have been running the Prochager surge valve for nearly two years with no issues. Dont kow if I am lucky, or not making enough boost to F it up.

I dont think so. Let me see if I can find a picture of mine.

Ok, I am using the Procharger supplied surge valve, but it looks different from yours.
