Hello,

I found a great V8 4.6 liter automatic transmission 1999 Gt convertible.

How difficult and costly would it be to convert into a 5 speed, any rough estimates ? Thanks

Clutch/Brake Pedal Assembly
Clutch Cable/Quadrant
Flywheel
Clutch Assembly
5-Speed Computer
Transmission/Bellhousing
Transmission Wiring

I think that's about it, I'm sure someone else
will chime in.

As for cost, it really depends where you get your parts and how you shop around,etc.. It will cost anywhere between $400 - $1000 or even more, depending if you use alot of new parts or alot of used/JY parts.

Driveshaft
Index plate
Pilot bearing
Cutch fork
Throwout Bearing
Shifter cover plate
Shifter boot
Re-Key the PATS at Ford for the computer swap

Unless you get the parts dirt-cheap, it WILL be more than $1,000.

Personally I would just try and find a 5-speed car. There are plenty of them out there that can be had for about 10k or less depending on condition and milage.

I had a 01 auto and did the 5spd swap, cost me $1,000 for everythinhg,,,took the tranny off a 98 cobra, shifter and most of the needed stuff, bought a new Centerforce clutch and flywheel though.

The conversion was worth every penny I spent.

Just start collecting parts and pull it together as your budget will allow.

I keep hearing that you need a diffrent driveshaft, but I re-used the AOD one in my old vert and it worked fine.

don't forget to get the little stuff, bolts ect.
