I just found out that msd makes a spring kit that changes the rpms when the advance curve is fully advanced. I been told the distributor comes with the 2 heaviest springs installed and a stop bushing that cuts off the advance at 20. Whats your guys opinion on getting the spring and bushing kit and what spring combo to use? and where is your base timing set at? thanks

The spring/bushing kit comes with all MSD mechanical advance distributors. I use the lightest spring and stretched it out a bit to make it even lighter. 14 degrees base timing with 20 degrees of mechanical advance for a total of 34. All the timing is in by 2500-3000 rpm.

This is on a 302 crate motor in a track only car (not street legal).

Did you use the bushing along with the springs? I got the dist. used and did not get the kit with it. Would you recomend just switching out the springs in a 93gt hci fuel injected setup?

On a computer controlled engine, the computer sets the timing. I would think you need an EFI distributor.

modern distributors do not use springs, EEC does it for you
