So I found someone here locally (LA) to paint my car for me for free, i just have to get the supplies. What is the best kind of paint out there for the money. Im only looking to spend about $500 on paint. Anyone got a hook-up??

Also..How much paint will I need to do my 87 Hatch with all the Jambs and engine compartment?

Nason single stage. 2 gallons. buy it at finishmaster.

the ratio is 6 parts : 1 part activator.

buy some accelerator.

should be around $300

a good paint job is in the prep.
sand thoroughly. primer with metal etching primer/ or epoxy. then re-prime/ or seal. sand any dirt or imperfections. then paint. on a race car it should be cool for 5 years. what do expect for $300 ???

Thanks. Does finishmaster have a website and can you recommend a good etching / seal primer?

talk to the salesman. tell him your budget. and what you are trying to accomplish. also your spray booth environment.

dupont had some stuff called 615 variprime. reduce with 620/616. 1:1. (metal etch)

nason probably has the same shit. (yellow stuff)

cheap primer.... I'd go with transtar. no lacquer primer!
here's the transtar web site. http://www.costplustools.com/store/list_products/index.phtml?start_value=16&category_id=1008219&sales_volume=&sales_dollar=&search_desc=&product_number=
they have sealer that goes over bare metal (epoxy). I'm comfortable with an etch primer and a 2k urethane HS primer for blocking. Then just shoot your single stage over it. Maybe ask your painter what he prefers?

Is there anyone in the San Jose area that rents air supplied respirators?

I am looking to attempt to paint my cars myself and would like to do it without poisoning myself.

I thank you for your assistance in advance and remain...

Murderously Yours,

MACHVII
