Hi,

I have an E cam in the car I just bought and there are a couple things that are bugging me.

1. Upon startup it idles really low, like its gonna stall, then it goes up to about 1000 like it tries to keep the car running. After that it goes back down and that goes back and forth for a few minutes.

2. Does this cam normally have a rough idle?

3. Car is running really rich (it needs a tune and an exhaust leak fixed). Anything that would help this? It has a 70mm TB and 24lb injectors.

okie [Big Grin]

I drove it yesterday and it started to really make me nervous that something else might not be normal.

What tranny is in it? If its an auto it can tweak your vacum pretty good but Ive seen lots of E cam cars idle fine with an IAC adjuster plate http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/4-6-5-0-FORD-MUSTANG-GT-MACH1-COBRA-IAC-RESTRICTOR_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ38634QQihZ006QQitemZ160104354817QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

Id wait on the tune until the combo is done.

Also the lopy idle when buying a used car isnt always a cam. If you know you dont have any vacum leaks and the wires, plugs and cap are good refer to the above notes.

drill a hole in the TB. i had to do this on both my 65mm and 70mm. it stableized the idle on mine when i did an ecam. what else do you have done?

Posted by BlueLightning302 (Member # 3974) on :

oh yeah, could be the orientation of you MAF. maybe a wrong angle. try different angles for the MAF.

Don't waste money on a tune with mild bolt ons.

What you need is to adjust your idle by messing with the screw on the throttle body.

Clean your black and white connectors and check your vacuum connections as well.

And yes an E-cam has a slight lope.

i'd post a video but my car is at the body shop [Big Grin]

Next time it does it pump your brake pedal (at idle) if it balances out its prolly a vacum routing issue, but in the end these cars have a mind of their own. What computer is in the car? What I mean by vacum routing is to many hoses off one vacum tree.

is it a h/c/i setup? is you maf set for those 24lbs? do you got the stock fuel reg? if you got a aftermarket one ,rent a fuelgauge or by one so you can adjust it.

I never got a tune but never had your kinda problem. On my h/c/i setup i had a custom grind that was way more lobe than the e303. I will tell you ,it would surge just when i start it or when i came to a stop, i would just rev it once and it would set at normal idle. My has an e303 on his setup, it had a brand new granitali maf from summit and he idle was shit . got a Cnl maf and solved it

Some Tuners dont even want to wrench on cars or want you to come in with a bad idle problem like that. Get the basic tune you need, Timing, fuel, idle ok, no codes poping up, Then get a chip/tune with no hassle

The car is a stick with a Tremec 3550 in it. After the car is warm it stops, and it has quite a lope.

The only other thing I have noticed when I take off slowly, it has a slight stutter when barely giving it gas. After I give it more gas it comes right out of it.

Mods so far:

GT40 Heads & Intake, 70mm TB with spacer, 24lb injectors, E Cam.

Paperwork does not show anything about a different MAF so I dont know if that has been changed. It does not have a CAI, but does have a K&N with the regular setup.

My plan is to take it to Apex and have a different catback put on and fix some leaks in the exhaust. Im hopin to get it tuned then.

If You have 24 # injector's then You have to have an aftermarket mass. I had the same issues with My E cam and did what Eddie 510 did, which was change the mass air meter and it fixed My problem like night and day. E cam is notorius for this shit. My recommendation is to try drilling the hole in the throttle body blade and if that does'nt work try to borrow a friend's meter that is calibrated for 24's & NA, then if that does'nt work throw that E cam in the garbage [Razz] .

get a FPR.... adjust your idle and timing..thats what i did and it whent away!

Whats the idle set at for the car? My Jeep has an Ecam in it and the idle is set for 900-950 and it idles perfectly. i had problems with it lower.

ok warm the car all the way up.Set your base timing spout unhooked at 12 to 15 depending on what gas you run.The more the better, stockers seem to like 15 to 16.Anyway do the timing then dis connect the idle motor and set your idle speed via the screw at 800 to 1000.Then get your volt meter and set your tps to .800 to .900 of a volt>reconnect the idle motor and it should idle rock solid.

mine is like at 800

mine is right about 800 as well, its just when its cold and first starts up after not running for a bit. it idles at like 4-500 then up around 1000 for a couple seconds and then down again.

so it goes to 4-5 then up, then down, then up and down and so on?

thats normal, the car is "surging".........its the computer.......a tune will take care of it..... [patriot]

do you drill the existing hole in the tb bigger or are you talking about drilling another hole in the tb the same size??
