I am having a helluva time with this guys.

I have the car on jack stands, strut is bolted onto the spindles, I loosened the spindle to balljoint nut a few turns and I am wacking the crap out of the spindle joint (see pic).

I am using a 3lb hammer and it won't budge. Any tips?

I don't want to damage the balljoints so a pickle-fork is completely out of the question

mine were the same way..so i just used my air hammer...thats if you have access to one eitherwise just keep lubing it and keep banging away! [Big Grin]

Luke, use a pickle fork. The ball joint is hardened steel, it won't get hurt. You might tear up the grease boot but just get new polyurethane boots. The easiest way is to use an air hammer with pickle fork attachment.

sears sells one that has a threaded end on it with 3 different sizes also for about $20, it's not craftsmen brand but it's very nice quality hard steel, it comes with both a hammer style rod, and a rod to use inside of an air hammer.

my air hammer kinda sucks so it wouldn't pop them for me, so I just use the hammer style rod with a 5lb mini sledge and 2 wacks popped each balljoint off, works great.

update: 5 lbs sledge made quick work of the job
