What's the backspacing on the rim? What springs? Control arms? Wheelwell lip rolled or no?

You can fit a 28" slick, but it's best to run adjustable length lower control arms to center the wheel in the well.

GT's ground effects are spaced 29" from front to rear of the wheel well so a 28" bias ply tire will probably end up rubbing the ground effects at high speed since those tires will grow ~an inch depending on rim width. This can be minimized with a wider wheel, but then you have to deal with backspacing issues.

LX's & 93 Cobra ground effects have an extra 1 inch of clearance & won't have problems with 28" tires. SN95's have another inch of clearance.

Also note that some tires labled as 28" are not really 28" tall. MT 28x9x15's measure 27.3" tall for instance. Also note that bias ply tires are not all the same size as marked. It's not uncomon to find 2 identical tire sized of the same brand/type that measre 1" different in roll-out. For this very reason Hoosier measures, marks, & pairs tires based on rollout measurments.
Before a Bias ply tire is heat cycled for the first time, you can 'stretch' the tire by inflating it with ~60+psi air pressure. Some tires you can expand by 1" roll-out. Once you heat cycle them (burnout), they stay that size for good.

I have a set of 26x8.5x15 MT ET drags & a set of Hoosier 26x10x15 slicks. On the same width rim, the Hoosiers are at least a full inch taller.

That's because the rim is better suited for tire #1 vs. tire #2. When a wider tire is put on a rim that's at the min width, you will decrease the contact patch and increase the active sidewall height.

As for the setup, it's completely dependent on the backspacing. MT's will work, stock control arms and springs will work, MM control arms and Eibach drag kit will work...I've used them all. If it's a standard Mustang backspacing (4.5"), the most he'll run up against is rubbing the inner well and needing to roll the lip.

No, actually it's because the MT's have an advertised 82" rollout, but measured 81" off the rim & the Hoosiers are advertised at 83", but measured 84.5" off the rim. Both advertised at 26" tall.

81" rollout = 25.8" tall
84.5" rollout = 26.9" tall

You never know exactly what you're going to get till it shows up at your door.

Yup, different manufacturers do things differently. [patriot]

Just like MT took those measurements on a 8" rim, Hoosier on a 9".

on my 91 28 X 10.5 X 15 mt drags rubbed in the front and rear of the wheel openings enough to rub the paint off.
