Is a car without mufflers legal? I want the car to sound ultra agressive. I plan to leave the stock cats in place. What do you think it will be like?

it will sound like absolute crap. at first, it sounds ok. give it one more day and you'll be sick of it. my friend finally put some mufflers on his 5.0 after running a stock mid pipe with no mufflers for a while and i have to say it was the worst sounding thing I've probably heard in a while.

+1
Running w/o mufflers is not legal. If your car is too loud you will get pulled over and the cop will give you a fix it ticket.

yeah i agree that is gets annoying. I have lontubes, and a prochamber that i ran right out of the prochamber. the most annoying sound ever for a daily driver, put my 2 chambers back on the next day.

You need to remember that just because its loud, its not ultra agressive. I have seen cars with full exhaust sound so bad ass but it's because of whats under the hood. A mild built 5.0 with tractor pull headers would sound like shit!

i bought my 5.0 without mufflers.. do they pull better with mufflers (backpressure)?

I went with just the stock H pipe on my 2003 gt and I realized that it sounded like a boat, it was horrible and fumes seaped up under my seat. Right now is the best my car has ever sounded, it has all the boltons, cams, longtubes, o/r h pipe, and 03 cobra mufflers dumped. Its suprisingly quiet but has a nice hiss to it. I think its badass

If it anywhere near stock it will have better power with mufflers.

I drove mine to the muffler shop with just the H today, it sounded great, and when they drove it ont the lift it sounded great...but...after about 20 miles I had a terrible headache from the fumes

if highly agressive sound is wut you desire just get an offroad H with some flows

If your exhaust exit's after the rear axle WITH or WITHOUT mufflers it's legal...Now the noise factor is a different question...Obviously you'll get pulled over if your car is too loud mufflers or not!...
Just to let you know the SRT4 Neon's have NO mufflers stock from the fatory...The turbo quiets the exhaust noise and turbos don't like back pressure...
From what I've seen, most stock Mustangs will Dyno better with mufflers than without...You have to have some back pressure and the mufflers actually help with exhaust pulsing and scavaging to give you more hp...
But if you like the way it sounds then fuck it...

I have a 1994 GT 5.0 with Ford Racing shorty headers, a Bassani X-Pipe with hi-flow cats, and a custom made Cobra R Side-Exhaust kit with no mufflers. And in my opinion, it sounds bad-ass. Everyone that hears it tells me that it's one of the best sounding Mustangs they've heard. As far as power goes, I definately didn't feel any kind of power loss. I've also been running this exhaust set up for almost 3 years now and have never been ticketed for being too loud. But nonetheless, it is loud as hell. I just don't drive like an idiot or rev it up too high when I see a cop, so they don't really have a reason to pull me over. It also helps that most cops in my area love muscle cars, so they all go after the rice rockets lol. Anyways, this is just my 2 cents. Go with whatever you think is best.

THANK YOU GENTLEMEN. THANK YOU. OBVIOUSLY THE NO- MUFFLERS APPROACH SEEM TO BE THE WORST DECISION I WILL EVER MAKE AND REGRET ALL TOGETHER. FROM ALL YOUR EXPERIENCES, I'LL LEAVE THE FLOWS THE WAY IT ALREADY WAS. SOUNDING LIKE THE AMERICAN WAY!
