You should be able to put any aftermarket 302 heads on there w/o issue.

You may run into piston to valve clearance issues with a cam though. You should definitely check clearance on whatever cam you decide to go with.

do you have a stock 85 block. because my cousin put the same set-up you have on his 86 gt and had cleareance issuses with those came and heads on his flat piston block. anybody else could help with this issue. planning to get gt-40's but dont know if i'll run into troble with piston and valve clearance issue depending on the cam to use.

An 85 shortblock is the same as the 87-92 shortblock. They have Factory Forged Pistons,Roller Cams etcc... with the same valve clearence as the 87-92 shortblocks. You can use any of the common heads/cams without any issues.

I bought an 87-93 replacement motor.. then i changed the heads, cam, intake.. with this setup i have no problems, except hood clearence. the air cleaner box presses against the lining under my hood. But the hood still closes.. 86 pistons most likley will have piston to valve clearence because they dont have valve relives. but im not sure.

Here is a pic of the pistons in my motor...You can see the notches in them.. i dont think 86's have these..

that's what i was worried about but i guess 85 motor is different than a 86 motor. right?

85's have valve reliefs
86's DONT have valve reliefs
87-92's have valve reliefs.

85, 87-92 shortblocks are the same. 86 and 93 motors are the ones I usually stay away from.

The 85 had a roller cam if it came with a 4 bbl and 5 speed, if it was an AOD car it had a flat tappet cam and TFI injection.
