my fox is having a rough idle and low vacuum. im suspecting maybe the egr is bad. no check engine light. how do u properly test your egr to see if it is bad?

Off car: Connect a vacuum gun( mityvac) to the vacuum nipple on the egr and pump it a couple of times. You will see the diaphram move and it shouldn't release the presure unless the diaphram is torn.
Installed: Connect gun and pump while the vehicle is running. You should notice the idle drop/ engine running rough. If the idle stays the same, either the diaphram is bad or the egr passages are clogged.
In your case it could be stuck open (clogged/bad egr solenoid). Good luck.
