it is too slow...i have a 98 saleen and my 97 cobra is way faster..
my 1997 saleen is a 4.6 sohc.its slow.i wanted to
change it to a dohc.which would be the best way to do that? and if you can also tell me what additional parts i would need to make this happen.
and what kind of price range i would be looking at.

my friends tell me to install a supercharger or a stroker...please help me out and tell me what you think...any info would be great...thanks

A motor swap would probably be a little on the expensive side, your friends are steering you in the right direction, put a supercharger on there. You have plenty of options, if it were my car I'd probably go with a ProCharger because they are intercooled and sound awesome. But some people like the KenneBell's or Vortech, if money is an issue look into a Nitrous setup just be aware that you will need to refill it.

Your best bet is a turbo if you got a lot of time and money and don't daily drive the car.

i took my car to a shop and they told me since my engine had 80k on it that a charger would probably blow it. is that true?

Do a compression check or pay someone to do one, if it checks out OK then throw some boost at it.

where should i go to get a compression check? do you recomend any certain shops that are around?
and also what do you think of me changing it to a dohc? do you think it would help alot?
thanks for the help and info

I would not do it, it is going to be way too costly, you could sell your Saleen, buy a 1996-98 Cobra and then put a supercharger the Cobra and have your DOHC and a blower, it seems as if you will be on a budget though, so how much money do you have to spend is the question?

It may be better to ask your question like this; I have a 97 Saleen and am on a budget of X amount of dollars and am interested in X amount of horsepower and I also am aware that I will need to upgrade things like my suspesion, drivetrain and engine to handle this added HP and will also need to add this into my budget.

So does anyone with a 96-98 GT/Saleen have any recommendations on what I should do with my car as I feel it needs a little more power, I have X amount of dollars to spend?

You can always buy some nitrous 100 shot set up.

Why not s/c the 97 cobra you own and then just leave the Saleen n/a for cruising?

One thing you can do is a PI swap and throw some basic bolts-on's (plenum, t-body, chip, exhaust, gears, etc) on it. You will get pretty close to the power of a stock 97 Cobra.

Another option would be to get a built 2v motor and slap a blower on it. You would have reliability, it would be easier than swapping in a 4v motor, and the cost would be comparable to a 4v motor and all the parts needed to put it in your car.
