How can you tell when you have bad axles? I'm hearing noise coming from the rear of the car that sounds funny. Its not the brake drums, cause I just got them replaced. Is noise from the rear axles normal to the extent that It can be heard inside the car? thank you all, once again...

Check how much gear oil you have in there

Yes. Also possibly a bad wheel bearing

Ford has or had a problem with over torque with the rear end bearings. I had ford fix them once and they went bad again and then I went to a rear end specialist and it's been good ever since...

Check gear oil first. If that is good.......

If the rear wheel bearings are bad enough, they usually gouge the axles, since the inner part of the bearing actually rides directly on the bearings, very obvious once the axles are out. If that is the case then, you will need bearings and any axles that are messed up.

If the bearings and axles are ok, usually the pinion bearings are bad, being that they spin alot more than anything else in the rear end.
