where does the sound come from?
what kind of a pop is it?
what's your timing at, what's the fuel pressure at, have you pulled the plugs?
it could be hydrolocking from a blown headgasket.
it could be backfiring from running rich when it's cold
it could be an intake backfire from the timing being off, or the pcv being loose or missing.

I would start by checking all of your ingition wires and your distributor cap. Next check your fuel pressure.
Is it a mis-fire or is it knocking?
