I'm getting some M/T ET Streets for my car. problem is, I don't know which tire is the right one for my car. My 03 Cobra dynoed at 451 but should have more since i added a couple of power adders, maybe about 470-480rwhp. So which tire should i get? all selections will go on a 16x8 rim unless you guys think i should get a different size. 1. 26x11.5 2. 26x10.5 3. 28x11.5 4. 28x12.5
thanks for the help. [ September 04, 2006, 10:34 PM: Message edited by: inferno03 ]

well, since im psychic, and i know the size of your wheel and the backspacing, get the 28x12.5, cause its the least likely to fit. the tire goes on the wheel not the car. knowing what car you have doesnt help.

Wierd i thought i posted to this earlier today
Anyway sorry but if it's stock 3.55 gears and at or about 500hp i would stick with a 26" tall tire.
With 3.90 or 4.10s i would consider the 28"
Also why not try out MT's ET street "RADIAL"
They seem to hook well with that power and have very good street manners. They also come in 17" sizes to keep the car looking stockish
I've tried all the DR's except the new Hoosiers and M&H......but that was on the old 2.76 and port.

Patrick, Right now i'm debating between going with with et streets or drag radials.. both are ona 15 inch rim. I have et streets right now. and i just love reving the car to 4k and dropping the clutch.. , barely spins and just hooks and goes.. get 1.8s all day long. i'm sure it's got 1.7s.. in it, but i'm comfortable there cuase it runs consistent numbers that way...However, i hate having to change tires at the track. With the drag radial.. will i be able to just drop it? or do i have to slip the clutch and stuff? guess i'm asking what your launching technique is... Thanks Jersey

Not sure as i've never "dropped" it in the Cobra.
I doubt you could get that aggressive with the DR .
I would feel more comfortable doing that with the ET Street's slight wrinkle.
However if you're sticking with a 16" rim do what JeffS said.

i'm running 15 prostars.. guess i'll just get et drag radials for wednesdays(when i'm looking for consistency).. and just use my et streets for weekend events(best times).. How safe is sacraceway? can you go and just leave your tires on the side without fear of someone taking them?

Inferno, get the 26 X 11.50's.
Jersey, I doubt you can drop the clutch at 4k with the drag radials. The radials will be a lot more stable going down the track and will feel good on the street, but I doubt you will be able to duplicate the 60ft times that you get on the bias ply's. You may get a little more speed out of the radials, but I will bet that your ET's will be a couple tenths slower and that your 60ft times will not be as consistent. I love my ET Street bias plys and have never tried the radials, so I may be a little biased. I do plan on replacing my Nittos with the MT ET street radials when the time comes, which I will use as my street tires and when I don't feel like making the switch at the track. I also figure that when I get my stroker I can run the radials with the boost turned up and let them spin off the line to keep the ET over 11.50 and just go for a high speed.
It may depend on your horsepower level. If you are under 300rwhp, you may be able to shock the drag radials. At 400rwhp, I think you have to slip the clutch a little.
Ron told me that Dave was out there last week with his blue 331 LX without the blower on it. I am assuming that he was still running his ET Street radials. He was running 12.90 at 109mph. He used to run ET Streets and ran 12.50-12.60 at 109mph. However, I think that he also went from 4.10's to 3.73's. Ask him, he has run both tires.
What are you racing nowadays? It is a Cobra right. What gears do you have? If they are 3.27's, the radials might do okay.
I'll be out there today on my bike.

what's up craig.. Thanks for the advice, yeah. i saw Dave racing on monday. why did he remove the blower? is the track open today? man, i didn't know. i better get my stuff together quickly and head out there... I'll see you later today. I have 430s and a K&N filter... so far my best has been a 13.43 @102.. Car has a lot more potential though.. i just can't shift fast enough. My friends exact same set up but with xpipe and catback trapped 107 on monday!! I wish i could try someones et darg radials just for one pass.... because with this car, if you luanch at anything below 3k the car will bog and take forever to get to the upper rpms..

If i didn't sell my old set i'd def. let ya try them out Jersey
Why not try upping the launch rpm a bit and feather the clutch some to keep it from bogging down.

My dad said they are running so I am heading out. I forgot that you had your car in your sig. Dave was having issues with his ignition. I think the blower will go back on soon. How did he do on Monday. Nevermind, I will find out tonight. The morning races are always faster for some reason. I know the 60 ft times are better because they prep the track better with VHT, but for some reason my speed has been 3-4 mph faster on the weekends. Ron ran 109mph on a weekend race in his Mach and he usually runs 106-107 on Wednesdays, even when the air gets cool and the wind dies down. I don't know what it is, but something makes them run faster on the weekends.
It is a lot easier to get good and consistent reaction times when you are just dropping the clutch. When you try to slip it off the line, it is difficult to get good reactions. Ask Vince if you can try his tires. Will 03 wheels fit your 96?

I most certainly agree!
I just don't do much bracket/heads up racing so it's not a big deal for me

I forgot Vince has drag radials, i'll ask him.. I don't know, based on yesterday i think i'll just go with et drags again and just get an electric impact wrench to facilitate the tedious process of swaping tires late at night. I seem to have found the sweet spot where if i just drop it, the car will get consistent 1.80X's and run in the 30s. did you see me redlight against Vince? -.006

26x11.5 should fit perfectly
I am running that size ET Street on 17" rims without any rubbing. With stock 3.55 gears, 28" is too tall IMO.
