Is there a reason for buying a cat back system over just getting some new mufflers installed? I am just curious as to if there is some performance difference or just personal preference.

a new catback consist of 2.5in piping and new mufflers and tail pipes.

your stock piping is 2.25

It depends on your combo. If you have a basically stock setup you won't see much if any performance difference between a good set of mufflers and a cat back. If you have a build motor or are running a blower setup (especially with H/C/I) then you will see a difference. This is assuming you have headers and a matching H/X pipe.
