They'll both put down around 285-290rwhp imho.

The 5.0 will have a higher peak torque (although it will happen lower at around 3500rpm). The cobra will never make the same peak torque, but it will have the torque curve shifted to the right and result in similar HP.

your first option for the fox sounds a lot like quick88lx old setup. He had the performer(6025)and intake, stock cam, 73mm C&L, 19# full exhaust, 3.55, UCA and LCA and went 12's with a 5 speed

Put better heads on the 5.0 and it will win hands down (+24lber's) ..

IT'S ALL ABOUT THE HEADS!!!!!

AFR165's, Twisted Wedge, or even better AFR165 Comp or Twisted Wedge CNC.

Seriously- why bother with the Edelbrock heads if you plan on buying aluminum aftermarket heads??

Get the best head you can and it will rock. How about 300+rwhp w/ Cobra intake and STOCK cam?

Read all about it-->

I definately agree, get a nice set of high flowing heads, above average, and figure your combo from there, you should see some nice increments in your ET's [Big Grin] - As long as the parts work together [Wink]
