Which turbo is smog legal for mustangs? That is what I would worry about first if it has to pass smog. I though Icon was, but I think they went belly-up.

Probably would be best to state your budget and what horsepower level you're looking to achieve.

IF YOU GOT THE MONEY FOR A DART IRON BLOCK OR AT LEAST A SPORTSMAN BLOCK GO TURBO- IF YOU ARE ON A BUDGET AND ARE USING A STOCK BLOCK GO WITH A SUPERCHARGER(VORTECH)- I PERSONALLY AM MORE FOND OF THE BIG SINGLE TURBOS OR AT LEAST TWIN 50ISH TO 60ISH MM TURBINES- MAN THOSE TURBOS ARE NASTY- [patriot]

500 to 600 HP can be very easy to achieve via 331 and a vortech s-trim... The most important thing is a real good tune. Smog isn’t an issue here. Just remember you’re on barrowed time anytime your approaching 500RWHP on a stock production block...

There are no smog legal turbo kits unless you can find an old Icon systems kit. Although a turbo 331 would be the shit [Big Grin]

A 331 with a good set of heads (TFS CNC ported or AFR185's), custom cam, and about 10-12 pounds of boost should get you close to 500rwhp.

Is a stroked supercharged 351 smog legal? You can try to pass it off as a 302 I guess.

Isn't there anyway aroung smog? Here we can just registar our cars in a county that does not do smog. Or if you spend more than $300 dollars on smog related repairs, and still fail, you get you tags, and registration anyways. I made up a fake work order, and took it to a smog place once. I know there is pollution problems there, but there must be some way around it isn't there?

There's always ways around smog [Wink] However, California has the strictest emissions standards in the country. It's a lot easier to try and build a car that is smog legal than to try and get around it. It will be a PITA to sell a car in CA if it won;t pass smog.

i would think a 331 ci /vortech s trim 12psi/custom cam etc, would be closer to 600rwhp if not more...
