I was testing the evr (egr valve regulator) on my 89 5.0 when I hooked a vacuum guage to the vacuum line going to the egr valve and at idle it should not give the egr any vac which it didnt, and the then it should give it vac at all other throttle position except wot. I cant get vac out of it at all at any rpm which would mean my egr is never opening and I have been having detonation problems. my question is that I never got a check engine light and I ran my codes and nothing came up if my egr is not opening it would have to give me a code how could this be, any inpute apreciated.

Your EGR dosen't operate at idle, only cruising. I don't remember if the EVR uses 12v or 5v, you can install a vacuum guage to the EGR port on the EVR, apply voltage to it and it will be at 100% duty cycle. You should have engine vacuum at the guage.
