I have a 91 GT 5speed and im going from 2.73 to 3.73 gears. I'm looking at alot of charts showing what speedo gear to get and it stops at 3.55. I've called 50resto and they told me I'd need a 21 tooth gear. I called Steeda and they told me a 23 tooth gear. Anyone with a 90-93 5spd with 3.73s here? What speedo gear did you use? Steeda told me the closest thing I could do is just get the 23 tooth but said it will still be off by about 6-7%. Any ideas? Thanks...

either way they will both be a little off, but i would go with the 23 tooth, i believe that will be your best bet.

depends on the year.....

****EDIT oops...just in case you don't know, the 18-23 tooth count is the DRIVEN gear...
and the 6-8 tooth count is the DRIVE gear. a t5 has the drive gear c-clipped to the output shaft and requires the tailshaft cover to be removed to replace it. an aod has the gear MACHINED on the output shaft and requires replacing the output shaft

'83-'89 t5's had 7t drive gears....and can be corrected to 4.10's w/ a 23t
but the 23t is NOT a ford gear...21t is the highest you can get from ford, those 23t's are jeep geras and have the wrong pitch...they will work for a while, but wear fast.

here is a chart......for a '90+ t5 they have 8t drive gears....the best setup is to replace the 8t or 7t w/ a 6t.

then you have a lot of versatility....

6t w/ a 19t is good for 4.10's...but depends on what size tire you will be running mostly.
