yes like the title says..i hear a TICKING noise coming from my motor.

this is what happened...

was drving home from the gym las night..around a corner i got on it in 1st hit 2nd let off in 2nd to slow down..all of a sudden i hear a "tick tick tick tick tick" hella loud...and gets LOUDER as the rpms rise...what the hell is this??? Rick said it could be a valve..

*** UPDATE ***

ticking is heard MOSTLY from under the car! can barely hear it when listening to motor but when listening under the car (laying under) it can be heard very well..and it does sound like it is coming from underneath the car

valve. [patriot]

Could be a valve but I would check your plug wires 1st and make sure they are on tight.

Could be something as simple as an exhaust leak.
Could be something worse.
Do you have good oil pressure? These 4.6's go south fast with lack of oil, or even oil that is too thick (like 20w/50).

If you can't figure it out, you can bring it to the shop. We specialize in the 4.6. We'll be able to figure it out & fix it.

Give it up for the rod knock...

also it might be your lifter, i have a thicking noise on my car and it runs just fine i just added better oil (syntetic) and most of the thicking went away, a lot of 4.6 have the thicking noise, but since u said that there was no oil then i think u might have mess up a valve or even more.

No oil!?!

D'oh!

4.6's don't have cam bearings....it's a steel camshaft rotating in an aluminum head. If there's a lack of oil for any length of time.....the heads are most likely toast. The steel camshaft destroys the aluminum in the head....& it can not be repaired. Rod knock is also a likely possibility....Lash adjusters ticking as well. All of which will not get any better....it'll only get worse.

*spam* Luckily we build forged 4.6's for around the same price as what you can get a new one from Ford for. *spam*

Something is terribly wrong if you lost that many quarts of oil in one week! Are you saying you never noticed any oil dripping,..better yet SPEWING from the car anywhere at anytime??

I'd suggest having someone else find and fix the problem for you. No offence but 2005 sure isn't your year. I hope 2006 takes a turn for the better on you. [Eek!]

heres a stupid question, you have an offroad H, correct? Is the H welded shut or press and clamped together?

the second time my engine went out on my 00 gt, i had no oil in the car, cause i though ford had done my service but they didn't, so yea my engine went out.

Posted by Red00GT (Member # 5653) on :

someone that looked at it said it could be one of my rockers [Confused]

Posted by JohnB (Member # 969) on :

Take a good, hard look at a diagram of a 4.6...lemme know where the rocker's are. [Wink]

How about doing a oil change...and cut the oil filter open. Let us know what ya got...

ok skip the rockers then lol..thats jus what someone told me.

i changed the oil..put FRESH oil in with new filter..started the car up AND...

TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK [Mad]

johnB what is goin on with my car?!?!??!??

Posted by Red00GT (Member # 5653) on :

oh and replaced the plugs as well! ticking is STILL there!

Posted by JohnB (Member # 969) on :

Just to take the accessory system out of the mix...pull the belt and start the car. If it is still there, you have a rod knock (if it is continuous and with the engine rotation). If it is varied, it could be the chain self-adjusters, the balancer, or a valvetrain issue.

Posted by Red00GT (Member # 5653) on :

ok heres the deal...

when car is idle..cant really hear it but its there..when givin gas tick gets LOUD! ill try the removing the belt in a minute.
