I heard some cars have a problem with the driver side head and the only fix is to have Ford replace it.

All 03/04 Cobras regardless of the date of manufacture either have the "head tick" or may have the "head tick" in the future. IMO it is nothing to worry about as I have not heard of any failures due to the tick it seems to be just an annoyance to some. My old Cobra had it FWIW, it sounds like an exhuast leak.
Supposively Ford has recently revised the head AGAIN to fix the problem but the verdict is still out.

From my research it seems as though they are concerned about inadequate coolant passages along with problems with teh valve guides....but like Jeff said it's till up in the air.
My car is an early run 03 but has not had a tick :knocks on wood:

Well the tick supposedly gets worse. I've heard sound clips from other sites where it sounds like a really bad lifter. I'm hoping there are Cobras that aren't affected.

LDC Chicago cooling mod is what you are speaking of.
Don't know if that's a bunch of hype or a valid mod to save the head.

Has anyone here honestly heard of ANY failures due to the "tick"? Looking at poll's on other sites it appears there is a LARGE percentage of Cobras with the "tick" yet VERY few if any failures that are SUPPOSEDLY a result of the "tick". IMO it is nothing to worry about.

It is nothing to worry about. No mechanical failure will result. I've heard it on a few Cobra's, the owners didn't even know it was there. A fuel injector opening and closing is almost louder than the tick.
