My friend has a 94 gt with the 5.0 in it. He has over 130k miles and wants to build a new motor. Are the blocks from 93 and earlier different then 94/95? Also for parts like intake manifolds etc. can those be mixed or are they all different? Thank you.

does he want it to be smog legal?
The only way to keep it smog legal is if he uses a block from 94 and up. If he uses a 93 or lower block it will not pass smog.

i think he was trying to pass smog... what makes it not smog legal?

in 93, ford went with the hypereutectic pistons, so weaker pistons there...
the upper intakes are different, as are the TB's and headers... bellhousing and input shafts are different.
94 blocks retained the double roller timing chain setup, whereas the 95's apparently went down to 1.
theres a few more, but its late and I'm tired

technically an older block is illegal but no smog tech will check that if it's still a 302

Ya, whenever i get smogged I have never seen the tech look at the block before. I will pass this all to him. For heads and intake manifolds, will they bolt on both blocks?
