would any one know what would cause a motor to tick. i dont think its the lifters cause it doesnt get louder when you accelerate. just when you are in idle. it sounds like a pen tapping a table. and i repeats itself.

remove your serp. belt and start the car....if the noise goes away then its most likley one of your accessories.

could be your crank shaft/pulley. I had a similar sound and I ended up replacing smog pump, alternator and water pump before I found out it was the crank.
