I know its not a Ford but since ive gotten relly good help from board members on question on my stangs I thought id ask for some more help...I just recently got a 92 Cadillac STS and its been running great untill 2 days ago... I noticed to temp climing to 230-240 or so.... so i stopped my car ant turned it off and my overflow bottle was boiling and it started to spill over. I noticed the coolant being extreamly rusted so i tryed to flush it as good as i could but there is still some rust mixed in with the new 50/50 coolant mixture i added. I then drove the car for about 10 min and again the temp climed up so i returned home where it boiled over again. I then changed my t-stat and I thought it might be it because i drove it everywhere that night with no problem. However, the next day i went for a drive and again the temp climbed and boiled over... What can be causing this?

you would want to look at the seals to see if there broken,u need to pressure test it or if u dont have a tester you could always just buy a new one just to be sure thats its good.

Is there any coolant leaks anywhere you can see? A lot of times if the water pump is bad water will start leaking out of a weep hole located on the pump. Are you losing any water in the system? Since you replaced the t-stat and flushed it out only things really left are a bad water pump, clogged radiator core or a head gasket/leaking intake gasket. Oh and the cap. A lot of corosion in the coolant/water after a flush would tell me to look at the radiator first.

I dont think the coolant is rusted, it is probably dex-cool which is a rusty type color, I hope you didnt put green antifreeze in it if it takes dex-cool

Yeah I imagine old dex could look rusty. Can't mix dex with regular green coolant. Big no no. Should say something in the owners manual or radiator overflow cap as to which type of fluid goes it.

the other thing in caddy's you have to use the coolant additive tablets too.. Check your oil to see if it the level is going up

I checked my manual and it says to use DEXRON IIE... is this the same as Dex-Cool? If it is, what can happen because I did add green antifreeze?

They say that the mix of the 2 will cause the coolant to turn into a gell type substance.

Dont forget to check on the fan turning on. If your temp gauge is rising fast from cold ie: less than 5 minutes idling. Your probally lookiing at a leaking headgasket.

the fan does turn on... and yes the tem rises realy fast. when i first turn it on within 4-5 min it climbs to 190.
when im driving the temp stays between 198-201 but if im at iddle for too long like at a stop light it climbs really fast.
