Most likely not on a stock shortblock...clay the pistons to see if it clears, if not, just notch the pistons

If it's the 2.02 heads, forget it. You MIGHT get by with the others and retarding the cam 2*.

Does retarding the cam,say like 4deg.ret. decrease the likely hood even more than 2deg.ret?

The Z only has 4 degrees of overlap. It *should* fit without issues on a 306 with aftermarket pistons.

see, i already have the Zcam on the 306. i just want to see what kind of heads will fit without any clearance problems, sorry for not making it clear.
i just dont wanna go in too deep and take out the cam so i can put some heads on...

If you're already running an inline 20 degree head w/a 1.90 intake valve & clearing, the 2.02 valve will clear.
FYI, TW heads are not an inline 20 degree head.
AFR's, Edelbrocks, GT40s, Stock, Holley's, etc, etc are all 20 degree inline heads.

yes, i currently have the 306 with the z cam and stock heads, since these are "inline 20 degree heads" and i dont have clearence problems, i will not have any problems with 2.02 heads that are not Tw right?
this means that i can run afr, edelbrock or gt40s with no problem right?
sorry, im just a little slow learner.
thanks

Yep!
Hell, you could run Victor Jr's if you wanted. (2.05 valve)

now that we have all that figured, i have one more question what kind of rockers should i put on em, i have 1.72... or does it matter?
Posted by 93PONY (Member # 60) on
:
As far as piston to valve goes, if the 1.6's clear, 1.72's WILL clear.
As far as the stock valvesprinsg on most of these heads go....most will not be able to handle the added lift of the Z with 1.7's. You will hit coil-bind.

what kind of valvesprings would you recommend?

With 10psi & under the stock Edelbrock valvesprings will work.
