I am new to this. I am planning on getting a pre-99 GT and was wondering what would be needed and how much for a complete PI swap. Also, what kind of gain will this be from base 215 hp? thanks in advance!

just did one on mine. here we go...

99-up PI Heads
99-up PI Cams (or if you wanna do a different one its up to you)
99-up PI Intake (preferably w/ aluminum crossover)
Valve Cover Gaskets
Head Gaskets
Intake Gaskets
Head Bolts
99-up Coolant/Heater Hose
Flexible Dipstick (or original one..if you wanna spend hours tryin to get it in)
New Oil and Coolant (get a lot of coolant youre gonna lose a lot)
99-up EGR Tube
99-up Front 8 Timing Cover Bolts (they are much bigger than the pre 99s)
Header Gaksets (get them just in case)
Header Bolts (your stock studs will break..trust me)

i believe thats it..

any questions feel free to PM me anytime. later

Glenn [patriot]

oh while youre at it..change the spark Plugs and buy some better aftermarket headers (ex. JBA's) very easy to install while youre doin the swap

i forgot...

if you get 99-00 PI heads you will need the 99-00 Valve Covers

99-00 are Windsor Blocks
96-98, 01-04 are Romeo Blocks

all this is going to cost you over $1,000

here are the gains....some people are gonna flame me for this.

i was TOLD 60hp (not rwhp).

so if youre a NON PI 96-98 GT you have 215hp

do a PI swap youll be 260+hp due to the compression being a 10:1 or even a 10.5:1

it is BETTER to do a PI Swap than to Supercharge a NON PI GT...why????

look in the Ford Sale section...a guy is sellin his 98 Blown GT he said he put 272.2rwhp/308rwtq

my friend (97HEADSWAP) put down 270rwhp/311rwtq UNTUNED!

so make a decision yet? [Big Grin]

Blue97GT, did you do the swap yourself or did you have a shop do it?

should of had a shop do it with the little road blocks that came along to slow the process down!! [Embarrassed] [Razz]

Thanks for all the info Glenn....I will definitely look into it once I get the right car. I was also thinking about supercharging it, but once you clarified the HP gains...I will definitiley do the swap first. Thanks again! [burnout]

in my opinion i'd rather supercharge... that 272 was to the wheels plus no powerpipe and probably no tune!! chip and tune and powerpipe your around 300 to the wheels compared to around 250 to the wheels with just a standard p.i swap.

now if you still wanna do p.i swap, get longtubes, and if you want cams you will want to port the heads but now your looking at big bucks with install unless you can do it yourself??

I have talked to a tuner at APEX about a year or so ago, he said he tuned a 98 GT with 8psi, and could get only about 275rwhp. Depending on what S/C kit you get you are looking to spend around 2500-5000 just for the kit and any other parts you might need.

Go with a swap, p/p heads, intake, good cams, LT's, tune, and all bolt ons you could easily get 300rwhp all N/A, then go from there, depending on the pistons you get either bump the compression up for nitrous or get a lower compression for some PSI, but I'd start with the PI swap 1st!

If you only do the PI swap you will not gain as much as you think. You would need to go with Ported heads, cams LTs, Gears and so on to get the full benefit. I have a 01GT with a bunch of bolt-ons gears, LTs, etc... and I put down 260rwhp and 300rwtq. I've dumped a bunch of money into my car and still run 12s on the motor. If it were up to me I say forget buying a 96-98 and doing a PI swap. Your money would be much better spent buying a Fox body or a 94-95 and taking the money that it would cost you to do the PI swap and buy a used H/C/I combo and install it yourself or someone else. What it comes down to is what are you looking for out a car.

hmmm...now you guys got me thinking [Confused] I really do like the 94-98's, but it makes sense to buy a fox since parts are very affordable and easy to find. To keep the body and go with a 5.0, I will consider shopping for a 94-95...we'll see what I can find. thanks guys!

it all depends on what you want to do with the car!! im just shooting for all suspension, bolt on's, longtubes, and 50-100 nx, with some stickies to get into the high 12's. i'd be real happy with 12's [dance]

cant beat the lower end of a 302! 5.0 parts are a little cheaper than 4.6 parts and you dont have to worry about a weak plastic intake.

you wont even need stickies to get into 12 territory... Had bolt ons, gears, 150 shot and ran 13.0 @ 108 with a 2.1 on street tires... G'luck with your goal

well, right now, I am not looking for TOO MUCH power..but I do want to hit 12's. Right now I have a 96 V6, so you all can imagine how slow that is right now [Mad] Even when it was supercharged, it wasn't enough for me...so maybe a 96-98 with bolt-ons and possibly a s/c would be enough [Confused] The reason is because I found a guy selling a 96 vert GT for $4000 OBO...so I was going to try and bring him down to $3000-3500...only has 73k miles too 5spd. Does that sound worth it? also, how much RWHP do these 96-98 GT's have stock?

rwhp stock?

a measly 180-190rwhp

Posted by SydeWayzSix (Member # 2222) on :

man...that sucks [Mad] would about 300 rwhp be possible w/ all bolt-ons on a 96 motor without the PI swap or s/c?

Posted by Blue97GT (Member # 4241) on :

highly doubt it

i'd love to buy your car with that Forged Motor...but I cant afford that right now. I remember that car at Big Boy's (Sheldon's) shop a while back...He did my intercooler when I had my v6 supercharged. He showed me your plastic intake that blew up from the juice [Big Grin]

how did you blowup your intake?? and when it blew did it damage anything?

short version, blew the intake by "pedaling" the gas, puddling the intake and then kaboom! Major thing that was was the lower part of the intake runner. Dont know if anything was damage on the lower end, i just opted to go for the forged bottom.

just curious how much was the forged motor?

Long story, had a shop take old motor out, build new motor with ford racing balanced short block, forged crank,4340 I beam rods, probe forged 2618 pistons, clevite 77 bearings, all ARP bolts, stage 1 cams,2001 heads/intake, ford racing 1 5/8" shorty headers, and install of motor. after some other things that went on with the shop, came out to be around $7500

[Embarrassed]
