DO NOT DRIVE IT WITHOUT THE DIPSTICK. oil will spit out and hit your exhaust and can catch fire. has happend before.

Lol- that's seriously McGuyver right there.
I ran my car a while w/o a dipstick but not with the hole wide open. I had gotten "over zealous" with the bending of my dipstick tube and snapped it off. I crimped the top until I replaced it. I ended up using a flexible one from Summit (it was a transmission dipstick I think).

transmission dipstick / oildipstick the same?

pretty much. Both are a tube with a stick. You'll have to mark your own level (which was necessary for me anyway with a 7-qt Canton pan) but that's about it.
