Not at all. They are pretty cheap and easy to do. Jack up the car (driver side). You will see an electrical connector on the side of the tranny. Un plug it. Un bolt the part that goes into the tranny, pull it out swap the speedo gear and reverse process. Takes about 10 minutes. If in fact this is a speedo gear problem. I would start there though, Might be a loose connection at the speedo gear.

i think those gears are around $10.
