What can be wrong?

Tonight I went about swapping the thermostat because I thought the one in there may be bad and stuck open and found there was no thermostat at all

Now with a new 192* unit the car seems to run better, but my stock guage is still not going over the lowest mark (130*).

I used an infrared temp gun on the thermostat housing and it read 205* after idling for 10 mins, the radiator read 150*, and the upper radiator hose read ~180*

After I turn the car off and take the key out, the temp guage will creap up to "A" which I think is 160* or so.

wtf? Is this the sending unit on the manifold that is bad, or is it the sending unit on the heater rail?

Check the one wire sender on the manifold...Don't depend on the factory gauges for accuracy...

which is why I used an infrared temp gun which is very accurate.

do you think the sending unit thats in the manifold is the one that is bad?

The one wire sender is for your gauge like I said...There is a good chance that it maybe corrodid or covered in sludge...

Have you tried gounding the sender wire and watching the guage?...If you ground the wire the guage should go fully hot(full sweep), if I remember right...That way you can make sure it's not completely the guage, but don't hold it grounded because you can mess up the guage....
