Ok so I changed the compressor on my A/C so it has ZERO fluid in it. I need to get it recharged. How much does it hold? about what will it cost I see ads but they say like $29.95/lb of that stuff whatever it is. How much will it cost me to recharge my a/c and where's a good place to do it?

i asume you are talking about the 94 gt in your sig, i cant remember when they went from r12 to r134a but if its r12 have it switched to r134a its much cheaper to do that than to have it charged with r12. If it is already r134a than just get it charged its not expensive

Don't go with R12.
Get R134A, it's super cheap & easy to get.
I forget the exact amount of oil you need, but I believe it's simply 1 can of pag oil. Then you add 32oz of R134a & turn up your pressure switch a hair.

Do a search on the conversion for a Mustang. I believe there is a detailed writeup out there...maybe even on the Corral.

The hard part is getting all the air out of your system. But...what I've done in the past is make my own hose with a vacuum fitting on one side and an A/C fitting on the other. Then hook up one end to the A/C & plug the other into the intake manifold. Ghetto, but it does suck out all the air! LOL
Otherwise you'll have to go to a shop that has an electric vacuum pump capable of sucking a strong vaccum......& those pumps are NOT cheap, so the service isn't cheap.

So this means I don't have to convert it? I can just go to a shop and have it recharged for pretty cheap? Thanks Casey

ya just go and get it recharged i would do it for the cost of freon but were to far away from each other

not sure about the best shops in your area but grab the phone book and get some prices and go from there.

yeah r134a is what my 95 is. Its about 80-90 bucks to get the system recharged. You also want them to oil the system so that your compressor has oil in it.

i have an 88 gt mustang with r-12,
it blew hot air and had to be recharged
i went to the autoparts store and got
an 134a conversion with is just 2 nipples,
and the kit had three cans that charged the
system with the oil also. that all only cost
me $30. and still a yr+ later still cold air.

You can just go to the store and buy a can w/a guage from autozone, and charge it up just fine... all you need to do is jumper the switch on the canister and the clutch will engage and cycle the system to allow servicing.

but if you have bad seals that are leaking, youll need to buy another kit to detect those, and replace the needed parts... its easier to go to a shop, but it just depends on how you want to go about it! hope this helps

to do it right you need to draw a vaccum on the system you need to get that air and moister out of there

Someone just hit the nail on the head. I do suggest a way of putting a vauum on the system, it helps get the moisture out. On Ebay they have cheap vacuum pumps that use an air compressor to run. Just an idea. Good Luck

i suggest you just take it somewhere i tried filling mine up and it was just a huge pain in the ass. If you replaced the compressor then you must take it to a shop so they can suck all the air out and oil and refill your system at the same time.
