I have a 98 GT and im swapping out the old struts, is the use of a strut/spring comperessor necessary.

no, you dont need one. but you'll probably need an impact wrench for the top strut nuts

I did mine a few months ago. You dont need a spring compressor. I did use an impact wrench tho...

It is near impossible to do without an impact gun.

So other than the two nuts and one bolt on the top bracket, you also need to break loose and remove that big center bolt. See i was thinking that you weren't suppose to remove the top bolt on any struts. Also, how would you remove the metal retaning clip on my new strut, is all you have to do is to push down on the stut?

Unless you are changing the caster/camber plates out, the ONLY hardware you need to remove is the nut for the strut up top and the 2 mounting bolts at the spindle. Ensure a jack is underneath the control arm. And yes, push down on it to remove the clip.
