On an '89 the windows are riveted in so you need to punch out the center to drill the rivet out and then rivet the new window in. you are gonna need a "big daddy riveter"

same thing all fox body stangs are riveted they are big rivets so it takes bigger than standard rivet gun to set them

I have replaced many a windows and am stumped on the part where you say it is riveted in?There are only about 2 bolts holing the window in its just not a fun process getting it in and out of the door. All windows from 79-93 are held in the same exact way..

on my 85 GT the window was riveted in, when i replaced it (damn thieves) I used bolts.

from the factory ford riveted the windows in with the same size rivets as the door handles. to remove them you need to drive the mandrel out of the center and drill it out with a sharp drill bit or you will heat up the glass and break it. maybe the cars you worked on before had the windows replaced before with bolts instead of the rivets

I dont get it if they already broke ur window how did it shatter when u drilled it out. It should of been shattered already. maybe I'm seeing this wrong but I dont think I am. But maybe

There is absolutly no reason to do any drilling. If you buy a window from Ford or almost any glass shop whether it be factory or aftermarket glass the slider bracket is part of the window therefore there is NO need to drill out the rivets. You simply unbolt the top and lower hardware form the tract, slide it out of the door drop the new one in,bolt the 2 bolts back up on the tract and your done.

the glass rivets to the regulator. a new glass whether it is aftermarket or OEM will not come with a tract only the glass with the attachment tabs that the rivet goes through. the tract that you are thinking of is part of the regulator

Lemme try again, considering I have installed over 30 or more windows in Mustangs alone(not counting other makes/models) I can tell you I have never had to drill or rivet anything to install them.Every window I have ever installed wether it was new or used,OEM or aftermarket had the part already on the window. It poissible they offer it both ways but everyone I have delt with has had it already installed.

Its kewl though I am just trying to make the process an easier one for people.Ill do it my way and whoever wants to do it their way have at it [Whoo Whooooo!]
