i know this is a Ford forum but my friend wanted to know why his 89 honda prelude is eating oil?? its not leaking he said jus eating it up. is this a sign of a motor going out??

well, could be badrings, bearings, bad valves seals .

so yea the motors is goin,
but you can run 20/50 to help the car not burn as much

More than likely rings going out and/or bad valve seals. Does it just smoke alot on startup or is it pretty constant? At what rate does it consume oil?

well he says that he will get an oil change and then about a week later the oil is completely gone! i dont know much about hondas but ill let him know whats happening...

so its the rings? and is the motor at its end of its time?? [Big Grin]

haha.. i will. he wants a drop top fox..5spd..i told him he NEEDS some real power and looks..that prelude aint cuttin it for him. not sayin its in bad shape i mean its a clean car for being that old...ill tell him. thanks guys!

Must be another Honda with rear bumper caked in black. Alot of them around here. Maybe a leak of some kind? What does his driveway look like? lol

What does his exhaust smell and look like? It should be quite noticible if it is burning at that rate.

that engine is fucked. there must be so much carbon build up on those pistons and rings. burning more oil than gasoline is never good [Eek!]
