I just did a pretty major brake job on my girls `91 5.0 convertable, and the symptoms from before are exactly the same??

I replaced:
pads, rotors, wheel bearings, rear shoes, drums, drum hardware. I then bled completely through the old fluid and replaced it with dot 3 prestone brake fluid.

brakes seem to work normal, nothing is binding or anything like that...but the pedal takes significant effort to get any stopping power, pumping has no effect.

am I just feeling the difference between her stock brake lines and the steel braided lines on my `89 notch? I can lock up my front brakes with less effort than hers takes to stop normally for a stop sign [Frown] Also my pedal does not have to be moved nearly as far to start braking effort.

I'm thinking it has something to do with the MC or brake booster?? The brake booster has an aftermarket sticker on it and has a nice protective coating of surface rust on it..so its not original, lol.
