Aren't the 351 2v Cleavland head crap compared to the 351 4v heads?...
Oh on the 86?...Get an Accufab TB and a C&L or Pro-M MAF...Also, I'd look into other heads, the Edelbrock are great but AFR's and TFS's are better IMO...

why cleveland?? its a great motor. but maybe a little outdated. i'd go windsor also a great motor, easier to get parts for too, you'll get alot more options that way.

and i'm pretty sure a cleveland would take quite a bit more modification to fit between the narrow engine space in a 65 stang. i mean, the cleveland is like a damn big block.

Take it from a guy who has both a 351W and a 351C. Go Windsor

The 2v Cleveland heads if I remember correctly are better on low-mid range power than the 4v. A much better street motor than the 4v motor.
I already have the MAC Throttle Body, so I'm going to stick with it.

I'm sure after I swap to a Mustang II style front suspension and get rid of the shock towers there will be plenty of room.

Well I already have the Cleveland, it'd be a little different having a Cleveland and I'm not looking for loads of options for it, I just want a nice 400hp street cruiser which I think the Cleveland is able to do.
Thanks for the reply guys.

if ur going to build a clev. use 4bbl heads there is a giant diffrence but its going to cost a $h!t load of money to build a 351c plus it will be way too tight in that year. a 351w is tight but fits better and is cheaper and parts are more plentiful its eaiser and cheaper to make it go fast i have a mustang mag at home that did a test on 351c 2v, 351c 4v ,351w well the w blew away the 351c,s of coarse the clev. had more tourque but let me find the article and u will be surprised!

build a windsor...take that 351c 2brl and get it as far away from your car as you can. and also...you were thinkin' about a v6? if your worried about gas that much(i assume) then just go buy a 4 banger. an old ford is not a real ford if it doesn't have an 8 in it. or i suggest a fuel injected 302 with a t5 or aod.

Wow, I had no idea the Cleveland sucked so much? So you guys think I can't reach 400hp with the combo that I listed so I should buy a Windsor?
The reason I wanted a 3.8 v6 is because it's completely different than anything I have ever seen.
I don't want a 9 second drag car, I just want a hot street cruiser that has some muscle when I want it.

Clevelands don't suck, I still don't think there is a Windsor head that can match the 4Vs flow potential. It's just you have sooo many more options with the W and parts for the C are expensive. For the amount of money I put into my Cleveland, I could have bought 2 351W crate motors with equal horsepower to what I have. But, if you've got the cash and you want to be different, go for it. Looking at your list, here is what I would consider. Ditch the Edel. Performer, it's just slightly better than a stock 2v manifold. Unfortunately, they don't make a Performer RPM for the C (here we go back to few options). Look into the Weiand Xcelerator, it's a single plane manifold designed to have a wide powerband. The cylinder walls of the C are very thin and I wouldn't go more than 20 over if possible, have you torn down the motor yet? And, if you've got even more cash to throw at it, ditch the 2v heads and buy these http://www.pim.net/3cv.htm

Yes, the motor is tore down. Do you have any ideas on some headers? The only ones I found are from www.mustangsunlimited.com and this is the description:
Full-length headers for 1965-1966 Mustang with 351C-2V and manual steering.
Nothing says power like a Ford 351 Cleveland. But you'll need help in these beautifully crafted parts with 1-3/4" primaries and 3-1/2" collectors. They come with gaskets, collectors and hardware
*Bare steel, should be painte or high-temp coated for best results.
*Putting a 351C in the 65-66 engine ba requires that one of the tubes be slid into the collector and welded in place.
*Lower cross bar must be removed so use a Monte Carlo bar & export brace to support the suspension.
What do you think? Should I have some made? Thanks for the reply, those heads sound pretty cool.

If you're aching so bad to be different get a turbo
Posted by MustangNate (Member # 4559) on

I was thinking of a 3.8 turbo in the 65, then started thinking supercharged 3.8. EVERYONE was basically telling me that I'm a moron for wanting to do that, so I remembered that I had a 351c in my shop so I figured I'd just make the "mainstream" happy and drop a v8 in there.

you don't want edelbrock performer heads there is so many better heads out there

I wouldn't go ordering parts yet, it sounds like there are a lot of quirks to fitting a 351C in an early Mustang. Make sure you find out EVERYTHING there is to know about the swap first. Try going on the vintage Mustang message boards and see what they have to say.
