I've got to get my kid's 1996 Mustang GT smogged and the shop says I need the CARB EO numbers for all the parts. I have the EO for the Vortech supercharger, but does the Bassani X-pipe (P/N 46983) really need an EO number? What I mean is, if it still has all the smog sensors hooked up, shouldn't it pass?

It passed when I bought it in 2002, and there have been no major mods since then.

Does it have at least 2 cats? If yes then it should pass.

I would just get the stock H pipe back on because when the smog tech see's the supercharger he's going to start looking for other things.

Yes there are two cats. I don't have the stock H-pipe as this is how the car came when I bought it in Feb. 2003.

In most cases it will pass the sniffer, however the part has no carb # and that is reason enough for some shops to fail the car prior to even doing a sniffer test. If this is the case take it to another shop or 2 until it passes.

X pipes are not visually passable like the H pipes are.

They truly aren't looking to see if the car has an x or and h pipe. If you have 4 functional cats then you pass the visual but with only two yopu flunk the visual portion although you'd most likely pass the sniffer. It is all about finding the right shop that will just throw it on the sniffer even though it only has two cats [Wink]

I just got off the phone with my mechanic and he said that almost all the places are checking since the smog laws changed last October. He said while a TEST ONLY shop may not catch it on the visual, I'd still be taking the risk of paying for the test regardless. He had a spare set of stock CATs he said I could use, but it ends up they are for a 2000 Mustang, so they won't work. As I'm planning to sell this car anyway next summer, I may as well bite the bullet and have a OER CAT setup put back on.

Damn I hate this car. [Mad] Thanks for all the help anyway.
