I just put together a motor and can't get it to start. Here are the details.
Stock Bottom End
E303
Harland Sharp 3/8th 1.6 Rockers
Stock Length Hardened Pushrods
GT-40 Intake
65MM Throttle Body
73MM Mass Air Meter
The heads are GT-40Y Aluminum. I believe they come from ford with a bolt down style arrangment...
I bought the heads used, (installed, but never ran), they came with 3/8th studs, guide plates and rocker channels. The guide plates have holes where the pushrod passes through with a teflon bushing of some sort. I am guessing this is a conversion kit for swapping from bolt downs to stud mount because the studs don't look like regular screw in style ones.
My question is... will this set up screw with the geometry of my valvetrain? Do I need a different length pushrod?
I tried to start it tonight and it just sounded weird. I removed the #1 plug and rotated the motor...there was NO auduble sound on the compression stroke and it seems as though the valves are staying open...no suction or pressure what so ever while rotating the engine with the starter???
I set the rockers at TDC starting with #1 and then rotating the crank one quarter turn and then going to the next cylinder in the firing order adjusting the rocker to zero lash and then one quarter turn down.
Anyone have any ideas???

If it is a pedestal mount conversion, you are only supposed to take up the pushrod freeplay and then adjust the rocker .050" down (according to my Crane kit that I never used) It was too much of a hassle, so I never used the kit.

I just dissasembled the top end removing the rockers. I noticed that the rockers were wore on the bottom side where they sit on the stud. There are metal shavings in the rocker channels?
Is this normal for the rockers to wear like this?

So... is anyone running a Crane Cams 3/8th stud conversion kit? It says on Cranes website that I can use either there Energizer or Gold Race rockers with there conversion kit. I guess maybe Crane Cams made the conversion kit so that only there rockers only fit??? I am going to call Crane and see what is up. This is the only solution I have besides removing the conversion kit and going with some bolt down roller rockers. Any Ideas?
