F**K!!!! Im starting to regret buying my 5.0... seems like every week there is something else wrong woth it... Ok... some of you know ive been having some transmition problems but today when i go start my car to take it to the shop my battery is completly dead. I look around to see if i left a door open or light on, but no. I then jump start my car. As soon as i remove the jumper cables the volt meater in the car starts droping then the car dies. I jump start the car again and this time very quikly i drive the car for a good half hour to see if it would charge but at every light the car would start loosing power. I go home and switch batterys with my 01 GT(brand new battery) and the car started fine i drove it a few block but when turned off the car i tryed to restart it, the battery was completly dead. My question is does this sound like the alternator is not working? if so what kind should i buy to replace it? does anybody have problems with stock alternators charging with underdrive pulleys?

Pull the stock alternator off and take it down to Kragen and they'll test it for free. Sounds like either a bad alternator or you have a drain on the system somewhere.

Remove the alternator and go get it tested. Definitely sounds like the problem.

It could be your starter dragging it down also.

when I put my underdrive pullies, on I didnt put the alternator one on, cuz if you run an underdrive pully on a stock alternator, trust me IT WILL drain the shit out of your battery very quick. So either get an aftermarktet alternator, OR replace the alternator pully back to stock. I would just get a new alternator, thats what seems like the main problem is.

sound like your alt. I have a 130 3g upgrade and my shit still isn't up to par charging wise. You have anything else like electric fan or huge stereo system that requires more juice?

try this start your car and disconnect your + or -termonal on the battery (while the car is on) if it dies pretty sure its your alternator

wait.. doesnt that thing have a voltage regulator on it?? id check that first cuz i know my 85 has a voltage regulator. its most likely that or a bad diode in the alternator will cause it to do the same thing. its kinda wierd that it dies so fast doe

86+ 5.0's have internal regulators in the alternators...
Get the darn alt bench tested....Or, you could just buy a new one since it sounds like it's your alt...Now is a good time for a 3G 130amp upgrade...

:
18mm socket, put it on the nut on the tensioner pulley and turn to the left, then pull the belt off
