I had a problem starting my car a few weeks ago. I was parked in a parking lot, tried to start it and it wouldn't start. It sounded like it was hella struggling to start, so I stopped then tried again. My battery started smoking, so I went and bought a new one, then installed it. Well, today it did the same thing. It eventually started, but I know it's not supposed to "struggle" to start. Could it be my alternator?

take it to an kragen store, they do free testing for this kinda stuff.

Smoke coming from the battery or wires during cranking usually indicates an excessive current draw due to high resistance. That high resistance can come from a poor ground, poor connections at the battery or starter, a bad starter motor, deteriorated battery cables, etc.

So the best thing would be to have kragen check it out and see what they say?
