Gears. 3.90 or 4.10's would help off the line.
Or throw a turbo at it...

my notch came with 3.73 gears in it stock, so I dont think you will gain much, plus at least on my car it did not accelerate any faster at 5k rpm than it did at 2k, so getting the revs up faster wouldn't help much, lol.
you have a car with 88hp, there's not much you can do to change that shy of pulling the motor.

im thinkin of doin the exhaust...single muffler to dual pipes...would that help accelleration? will a specific type of oil help w/gas consumption?

Honestly man, it's not even worth dumping money into that 4 cylinder. That poor excuse for a Mustang power plant was only rated at 88hp. Even with a 150 shot of nitrous, I'd be surprised if you get 150hp at the wheels. If you're serious about keeping the 2.3, you NEED to at least hit up the junkyard, yank a turbo out of a Merkur or Turbo Coupe and install it on your car. Otherwise, you need to get a different car. Doing a V8 swap isn't worth the ammount of time and effort required.
Don't get me wrong, the Turbo 2.3's are great motors (I know, I used to have an SVO) but the N/A 2.3's are pieces o'junk (I know, I used to have an '83 Ranger).

The 2.3 has no low end torque and it's pushing over two tons of weight so it's definitely going to feel like a slug off the line no matter what you do. You could try some traditional tricks of removing and transfering weight to increase off the line acceleration (remove the backseat, remove the spare tire and jack, remove front sway bar and relocate battery to trunk for better weight transfer, etc.). Good luck.

Sell the 4 banger and get either a motorcycle or a V8 powerd Mustang if you want a bigger punch of the line.

A turbo conversion is probably your best route, shy of a engine swap (to a V8). Most, if not all the parts can be had at the junkyard.
SaleenX3, I think you're a BIT off on the weight of a Mustang.

all that will accomplish is making your car sound like a weed wacker.
oil is oil, so long as you change it regularly it wont affect much.

Ok, a ton and a half. Depends on how much junk is in the car.
