If you have as much HP as a 99 Cobra I don't see why not, unless the GT has a fuel cut off?

Please tell me your running Z rated tires even if your thinking of trying to go that fast ?

Trying to going 160 is a death wish

Top speed goes down with lower gears. As an example, a 2.73 geared car will top out higher than a 4.10 car. Lower gears are for acceleration, not top speed. Ford publishes a top speed of 150 MPH for a 99 Cobra, so 160 will not happen with a 4.10 gears and road and track had a top speed shoot out a few years back and a 96 gt could only reach 134 MPH. The fast top end Mustangs Ford built were the 2000 Cobra R with a top speed of 177+ and the 2003-2004 cobra that was electronicaly limited to 155mph. Testing and published road test results have shown that SN 95 chassis mustang needs about 450 HP to reach 180 miles an hour, but once the vehicle aproches 200 MPH, over 750 HP is needed.

WOW....that's insane!!!!!!!!

Be careful.....anything moving that fast is dangerous to everything especially on on our freeways.

I understand a quick jaunt to 100-120 but 160 i would imagine aerodynamics have a lot of influence tring to get to those speeds.

I can't believe you own a Cobra yet you don't know what it is capable of. With 4.10 gears, you top out in 5th gear instead of 4th like with 3.27, so yes any stock 96-01 Cobra with 4.10 gears can reach 160mph, this is a fact.

first, their is a huge differance with 4.10's than stock. the first gear is shit. i just barely touch the pedal and the rpms are at 5500. but i love it because it makes me unbelievably quicker. i would say that if your car is a daily driver, not just fun on the weekends then DONT get them get like 3.73. i have toped my car out on san mateo bridge the speedomiter hit 160 bounced a bit and repeadedly did so until i tached out in 5th. but the speedomiter is off by a bit so i just wanted to know about what speed i hit. by the way im running z rated in front and y (185+) rated in the rear, so i trust what im runnin on.

Well, here you go boys and girls... [Big Grin]

If you have a 245/45-17 (standard on Cobra's and on most Stangs now) you have a tire that measures 25.68"....If you have a T5 (not T45) and have 4.10's with a 25.68" tire you need around 5,900rpm's to go 160mph...

That's is mathmatically not including wind resistance and other factors....Mathmatically 5,900rpm and 25.68" tires and 3.27 gears, in 5th you could go 202mph...lol

Basically, there are a lot of factors to contibute to your top speed...3.27's kill the torque on the 4v's and that is one reason why the 4.10's will make you go faster...Most stock 5.0's don't pull much past 4,200 because that's just the power band...I was able to hit 150mph+ @ 5,xxxrpm with my 94 with 3.55's, if I had 3.73's I would've tach'd out sooner and most likely not even hit 145mph...

the san mateo (92) bridge is not straight at all.

its bumpy as shit, and has an elevation change of about 100 feet, there is a section where it is straight on the east bay side, but I would never go that fast on that bridge, its always windy as hell on there.

With all the metal gap spacing and wind....maybe on the down-slope coming from the city back to the east bay but still have too many memories of people hittin the wall on that bridge...myself included.

Ever notice how hypnotic the lights are on the bridge at about 2-4 in the mornin coming back from the city? It seems like forvever until you get to the toll plaza.

the bridge is really strait for a long while, and not very bumpy. but i will admit i got lucky. because once i was doing about 90. and a gust of wind hit me and i was so close into running into a wall. but it was on the high part of the bridge. and lately there have been a lot of cops posting up over there.
